2010 AMA Flat Track Gas City Results
| | | Round 6 of the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship rolled into Gas City, Indiana this weekend under perfect weather conditions. Making it two Singles wins in a row was the defending Singles Grand National Champion Henry Wiles who stayed in the lead after Canadian rider Don Taylor fell in Turn 1, causing a red flag and a restart. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider was never really pressured at any point in the race despite mistakes along the way.
"It was kind of a cat and mouse game," said Wiles. "I was looking for a good line and every time I thought I had one, I'd slip. Fortunately they were following me and were never able to take advantage."
One of Wiles’ only challengers was Harley-Davidson/ Moto Concepts Honda’s Joe Kopp, but after the restart a battle with Lucas oils' Jared Mees saw Kopp drop back and lose ground on the leader. Meanwhile, Mees tried to put up a fight against Wiles and get around him but was never able to.
Kopp and the two frontrunners began pulling away as an intense battle broke out for fourth-place. Stratton Racing/Snedeker Racing's Rob Pearson managed to put up a good defense to fend off brothers Jethro and Sammy Halbert, who had to settle for fifth and sixth respectively after the feud. Also adding to the mix was Brandon Robinson on his Action Motorsports / Lancaster Harley-Davidson-supported Suzuki, taking seventh by just four-tenths of a second.
Honda's Kenny Coolbeth salvaged an eighth-place finish ahead of Motorsports / Yeager's Cycle's Dave Burks, who was wheel to wheel with Coolbeth near the end. Honda’s Chris Carr rounded out the top-10 finishers after he maneuvered around Taylor as he fell during the first half of the race.
In addition to taking the GNC Singles victory Wiles also captured the four-lap Dash for Cash event, earning five points and taking home $1000.
