| | | 450 Motocross
Under a clear sky and a hot sun it was the Honda Red Bull Racing bike of Andrew Short out of the gate first to secure the holeshot in the first 450 moto at Budds Creek. Geico Powersports Honda rider Brett Metcalfe, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Chad Reed and Jagermeister/KTM’s Mike Alessi all closely followed the holeshot winner out of the first turn with Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey running fifth. Heading into the second lap it was the 350cc bike of Alessi that darted ahead of Reed for second. Meanwhile Dungey made quick work of Metcalfe, who had dropped back to third before the Number Five bike made the pass. After looking hesitant and cautious on his KX450F, Reed made a mistake early in the race which forced him to the back of the top-five. Despite this, Reed re-gathered himself and took a fourth-place finish in Moto 1. After crashing, David Millsaps was flown to a nearby hospital where he was treated with bruised ribs and a severe concussion. Ben Townley led a charge to crack into the top-five ahead of Reed and was riding an impressive race until an unknown incident on the final lap pushed the Honda rider back to 14th. Also suffering bitter disappointment was Grant Langston, whose crash on the first lap caused mechanical issues which he couldn’t recover from. Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Tommy Hahn encountered problems also when he hit a braking bump and dislocated his shoulder which forced him to drop out of the first moto. Red Bull Honda's Andrew Short took his first victory in Moto 1 at Budds Creek ahead of Alessi and Dungey. After getting close in so many motos, Short was finally able to take a moto victory and did so in dominating fashion ahead of both Alessi and Dungey. Behind Short, Alessi rode a strong race, defending his second-place position from the hard-charging Suzuki of the current points leader. Despite crashing early in the race, Dungey put in a commendable performance for third-place after having no goggles and having to suffer through Alessi’s monstrous roost. >Taking the holeshot in the second moto was once again Andrew Short. Also out in front were Alessi...
