2010 Indy Dealer Expo Day 2

MotoUSA is here in Indy to bring you a recap of our second and final day at the Dealer Expo. So, what else caught our eye? While not nearly as much new stuff was unveiled in 2010 as years past, there were a few more new items worth mention.

Michelin released its new Power Pure tire at Indy. Claimed to be 10% lighter than the competition while using Michelin’s 2CT dual-compound technology, they aimed to blend the high-performance worlds of canyon riding and casual track days into one do-it-all sportbike tire. We’ve yet to see any word of a press intro roll across our desks for the new Michelin, but here’s hoping that changes real quick so we can get a taste of the new French rubber and bring you a full firsthand report.

Arai Helmets caught our eye with its new Corsair-V Johnny Rea and Nicky Hayden replicas. While the helmet is basically the same model, they all now meet Snell 2010 standards by virtue of an updated shell construction, one which did little to nothing to increase weight, making it one of the first Snell 2010 lids we’ve seen that didn’t get noticeably heavier. Loads of other new designs graced its full line of helmets, showing the Japanese helmet manufacturer shows no signs of slowing down in these tough economic times. We have a few of their new helmets on the way, so be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming full product reviews.

Nicky Hayden's new replica Arai Corsair-V garnered a lot of attention (top), as did the full-carbon GP-6 RC Formula 1 lid.
Also quite interesting were several of Arai’s car New Nicky Hayden replica Arai.lids, including a full-carbon GP-6 RC, which is the helmet of choice for today’s Formula 1 drivers. Over 80% of the grid wears them and Arai doesn’t have to pay a penny to get them to do so. That speaks a lot for the quality of the helmet itself. It’s now for sale here in the U.S. at a whopping $5000 each, though as such don’t expect to see too many around. Amazing technology nonetheless.
