2010 MotoGP Silverstone Results
| | | Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo took his third victory of the 2010 MotoGP season with a win at the Silverstone circuit. Winning by a gap of more than six seconds, the Spaniard crushed the competition and once again extended his lead in the championship. Rounding out the podium on Sunday were Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso and Tech 3 Yamaha's Ben Spies, taking second and third respectively. Starting from his pole position Lorenzo immediately got a good start but was met by Honda’s Dani Pedrosa. The two engaged in a duel and traded places multiple times early in the race. Also taking part in the battle for the lead were LCR Honda’s Randy de Puniet, Dovizioso, and Ducati’s Nicky Hayden. Meanwhile Hayden’s teammate, Casey Stoner, trailed behind the pack after dropping to the back from his sixth-place starting position. San Carlo Honda’s Marco Melandri’s race was brought to an early end when he crashed out on the opening lap, but his teammate, Marco Simoncelli, had better luck and was able to stay in the race and advance his position. Lorenzo was able to find a good pace by the seventh lap and by then his lead had increased to more than five seconds. Behind him an intense fight for the number two spot broke out between Dovizioso and De Puniet with Hayden closely following. Making good progress in the race was Spies who broke into the top-five and quickly entered a chase for the final podium position. Ben Spies took his best result of the season so far with a third-place finish at Silverstone behind Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso. By the halfway point Stoner began picking-up his pace but his eighth-place position saw him battling Pedrosa, and his attempts to get past the Honda rider were met by fierce opposition. Eventually able to make the pass on Lap 13, Spies then continued to advance through the rest of the pack. Also having his race cut short was Rizla Suzuki’s Loris Capirossi, who crashed out by running off the track in his attempt to get past Hector Barbera. < br />Lorenzo crossed the finish line first in dominating style with a major gap between himself and the rest...
